"Berger, no swiping! Berger, no swiping!"

Sandy Berger, former National Security Advisor under President Clinton, is going to plead guilty today to removing classified documents from the National Archives, according to a Justice Department spokesperson.

The former Clinton administration official previously acknowledged he removed from the National Archives copies of documents about the government's anti-terror efforts and notes that he took on those documents. He said he was reviewing the materials to help determine which Clinton administration documents to provide to the independent commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

He called the episode "an honest mistake," and denied criminal wrongdoing.

Berger and his lawyer, Lanny Breuer, have said Berger knowingly removed the handwritten notes by placing them in his jacket and pants and inadvertently took copies of actual classified documents in a leather portfolio. He returned most of the documents, but some still are missing.

The charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of a year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine.

I fully expect Berger to get away without spending a single day in jail.

Plus some of the pilfered docs that Berger swiped are still missing. Mission accomplished.

UPDATE: More from Michelle Malkin (when is she going to finally blogroll me!? "Aw man!")

Here is all I want to know: were all of the documents stolen by Berger identical to documents retained by Archives, or did any of Berger's copies have unique notes or markings on them?
What do I think? That Berger knew what he was doing, and that he glommed onto exactly what he -- or more particularly his friends the Clintons -- needed.

The "distinguished competition" strikes again.

A defining characteristic of Democrats is that they are incapable of being embarassed.

I burst out laughing as soon as I saw your headline. Very good. And especially so because the two little 'uns were watching Dora at the time.

That is because they have no conscience, nor do they acknowledge a God or even a higher order, except themselves or the likes of Noam Chomsky.

Chief RZ, I don't acknowledge a god or a higher order, but I would like to see Noam Chupmsky get skinned with a dull, rusty knife, and slowly roasted over a fire stoked with live democrats, and basted in a gravy made of Sandy Burglar's flame-rendered tallow. Don't think that because someone isn't religious that they're a leftie.

I love my country, warts and all, and have nothing but hate and contempt for anyone who threatens it or supports its enemies. I swore to defend and uphold the Constitution, not the Bible, but the Constituion I support is the same one that gives you and I both equal freedom to worship, or to abstain from worship. Don't forget that.

The sooner that religious conservatives stop equating secularists with leftists, and attacking us as such, the sooner the left will lose an important constituancy. Besides, professing belief in a god isn't a surety of morality. Aren't most of the child molesters in the news lately religious types, like that Scout master? (Gives new meaning to the term Scout Master, too, dontcha think?)

BERGER SHOULD GET THE MAXIMUM. 1. HE WAS A TRUSTED, HIGHLY PLACED ADVISOR TO THE NSC AND 2. HE STOLE CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS. NOW HE'S LYING. HE SHOULD BE PUT BEFORE A GRAND JURY AND ASKED TO IDENTIFY WHAT HE WAS LOOKING FOR, WHAT HE FOUND AND WHY. THEN GET HIM FOR PERJURY, TOO. HE OBVIOUSLY TOOK HEART FROM HILLARY'S HIDING OF THE PRIOR DOCUMENTS. ENOUGH ALREADY.
